Gemotions

Liam slumped onto the sofa, the cushions doing little to alleviate the ache in his bones. The late nights at the office, the endless meetings… They had finally caught up with him. He just wanted stillness. He rubbed his temples, the beginnings of a headache blossoming. Sarah was supposed to be making dinner.

He heard her laughing in the kitchen, a bright sound that usually warmed him. Tonight, it grated. Then, silence. He knew she was probably on the phone. More and more recently, she'd been disappearing into other rooms to take calls.

He walked into the kitchen, his feet heavy. Sarah was standing by the back door, phone pressed to her ear. When she saw him, her smile faltered. "Just a friend," she said quickly, ending the call and tucking the phone away. His gut clenched. He didn't believe her.
